Curved Track Monorail Hoist
A curved track monorail hoist is a wire rope hoist mounted on an articulated trolley, travelling along a monorail track that includes curves and bends. A standard rigid trolley jams in a curve under heavy load, so the articulated trolley is built from two or more travel units joined by pivots, letting each unit follow the line of the beam separately. It suits plants where the load needs to move between halls, around machines or along a production line that is not straight. Lateral guide rollers keep the trolley centred on the beam through the curve and stop the steel frame rubbing on the flange. The trolley spreads the load over a larger number of wheels to reduce pressure on the flange in the curved section. On rolled beams the flange width changes slightly in the curve, and the wheels are adjusted to compensate. The minimum curve radius increases with the hoist's lifting capacity, so the track and hoist should be designed together. The power supply also has to suit the track: flexible conductor lines that follow the curve, or a festoon cable system on a curved C-track running parallel to the beam. The model table lists the lifting capacity, minimum curve radius, lifting height, speeds and flange width range for each model.
