Double Girder Hoist

Double Girder Hoist — photo 1

A double girder hoist is a lifting and travel unit fitted to double girder overhead and gantry cranes. Unlike a single girder hoist that hangs below the beam, it is built as a crab that sits on rails on top of the two girders and travels on steel wheels. The load is shared between the two girders, so it suits heavy loads and intensive multi-shift duty. Because the drum and motor sit above the girders, the hook rises up into the space between them, giving more lifting height than a single girder hoist in the same hall. Walkways and handrails can be fitted on the bridge beside the hoist, giving technicians direct access to the motor, drum, brakes and electrical systems without an external access platform. On hoists with a double-grooved drum, the hook rises and lowers in a vertical line, without drifting sideways as the rope winds on. Most models include inverter speed control and overload protection. The crab gauge, the distance between the centres of the rails it runs on, is set to suit the bridge, so a new hoist can also be fitted to an existing crane as part of an upgrade or replacement of an old hoist. The model table lists the lifting capacity, lifting height, speeds, duty classification and crab gauge for each model.
